The “Advanced Robotics” class is first offered in Fall 2010 as a honors course. This is a hands-on class with the long-term goal to design a multi-robot team that can assemble intelligent structures from modular building blocks. The focus of the class this year is inspired by NASA’s sample return robot challenge and consists of the autonomous exploration of Andrews Hall and searching for building blocks that are scattered in the environment.
We will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Andrews Hall. Mondays are dedicated to seminars in which students present current research papers that are relevant to the project. Laboratory exercises that introduce students to the PrarieDog platform and software will be on Wednesdays. Fridays are reserved for design reviews where students present their progress and discuss further proceedings in class.
Prerequisites: Instructor’s consent
Time: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 2pm-2.50pm
